NEVADA SENIOR RX — PRESCRIPTION COST ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

Senior Rx is Nevada’s state-funded prescription assistance program for low-income Medicare beneficiaries. It was established during the 1999 Nevada Legislative session and is funded by Nevada’s share of tobacco settlement funds. The program’s benefits are coordinated directly with Medicare Part D plans.

WHAT DOES SENIOR RX COVER?

Senior Rx currently operates as a Part D Premium Subsidy program. Benefits include:

• A monthly Part D premium subsidy of up to $37.00, applied directly to your enrolled Part D or Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) plan

• Help for Nevada seniors who don’t qualify for full Medicare Extra Help (Low Income Subsidy)

• Support in selecting the Part D or MAPD plan that best fits your individual prescription needs Note: Senior Rx no longer covers costs in a Medicare Part D coverage gap. The Donut Hole was permanently eliminated effective January 1, 2025 under the Inflation Reduction Act.

DO I QUALIFY FOR SENIOR RX?

To qualify, you must meet all three of the following requirements:

1. Medicare Eligibility You must be enrolled in a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan. If you qualify for Medicare Extra Help (Low Income Subsidy), you must apply for and use that benefit first — it may cover more of your costs than Senior Rx.

2. Income Income limits are updated annually by Nevada Aging and Disability Services. Contact Nevada Aging at 1-800-307-4444 or visit aging.nv.gov to confirm the current income thresholds before applying.

Nevada Medicare can also check your eligibility for free — call 702-840-1111.

3. Nevada Residency You must have lived continuously in Nevada for at least 12 consecutive months prior to your application date.

WHAT ABOUT MEDICARE EXTRA HELP?

Medicare Extra Help (also called Low Income Subsidy) is a separate federal program that can significantly reduce or eliminate your Part D premium, deductible, and copays. As of 2024, Extra Help eligibility was expanded to cover individuals with income up to 150% of the Federal Poverty Level — more Nevada seniors qualify now than ever before. If you qualify for Extra Help, it will typically save you more than Senior Rx alone.

Nevada Medicare checks your eligibility for both programs at no cost — call 702-840-1111.

To apply for Extra Help directly, contact Social Security at 1-800-772-1213.
